Easy Gluten-free Sourdough Starter

If you are like me, I like to find a simple way of doing things. I never made sourdough starter because it is something that needs constant attention. So I researched to find out if there was a way to make just enough starter for one loaf of bread. I came across kombucha starter and it peaked my interest. When I saw that it was an easy process, I gave it a try and I have to say it really helped my gluten-free bread recipe to rise better than my original recipe. Note: See this recipe on my blog for "Gluten-free Bread or Cinnamon Caramel Rolls". Please refer to that recipe when adding this starter and also see the recipe adjustments that are needed.

Gluten-free Kombucha Sourdough Starter

1/4 cup pear kombucha, or neutral flavored

1/4 cup gluten-free oat flour or buckwheat flour

1/4 teaspoon yeast, optl,

Combine all ingredients in an 8 ounce glass jar and cover. Place in oven with temperature off and oven light on. Stir twice per day. Leave in oven 24 to 48 hours until needed.

Note:  Since the fermenting process does not take long for this starter, it won't taste sour like original sour dough bread would. It may sour more if left for another day or so.
